Arum Atrium Skybox
This is the third in my series of ultimate skyboxes that provide self contained SL living that works equally well in either a skybox or mainland environment.
With the Arum Atrium Skybox I have created another attractive skybox that sits as happily on a small mainland parcel as it does high in the skies. In both environments it provides private and self contained living concommitant with virtual residency.
I have retained some of the ideas found in the Silver Lining Skybox, most specifically, I have kept the number of floor spaces at three with the lower floor housing a full sized swimming pool and have created a garden on the roof.
As an architect, I strive in all my house designs to match the functions of the house with the living behaviours associated with Second Life. For me, this means that certain functions found in Real Life such as kitchens and bathrooms are ‘de trop’ as it is not possible to eat or perform ablutions in a virtual paradigm.
Without doubt though, I feel that because of the fun element required in SL, there must always be certain options such as a private space, hot tub or access to water so that companionable activities may be shared with the avatars of our friends and partners.
We do not sleep either in Second Life and although one might argue that there is no need for a bedroom in the conventional sense, I think what is of overriding importance is the allocation of a private space for intimacy and privacy.
The Arum Atrium Skybox, therefore, subscribes to the Minimalist International School of Architecture with some bohemian notes included to give visual relief.
The intention with this build is to create large versatile living spaces with minimal divisions into specific rooms. To this end, the huge lily windows which give the build its name, have been constructed to cover both internal floors creating a unique visual space. These windows can also be set in transparent or opaques modes.
The lower floor houses the internal pool featuring lights that switch on automatically at dusk and, in our display model, has a music room at the far end of the huge floor space. The walls can be removed with a click and hold action so that optimal space can be created for specific occasions.
The Arum Atrium Skybox has no front door as access is by teleport as usual, however, should you wish to sit this lovely build on land, there is an external brass panel by which you may teleport inside.
Middle Floor
This is the living and sleeping floor and is open plan with only one closed of space breaking up the vast expanse. This is the bedroom area containing plunge pool and ample room for the bed of your choice. The open living space gives a view onto the pool and is bounded by a low invible barrier so that you wont fall over but can fly down. The visual impact of the beautiful windows is stunning.
Roof Garden
The outdoor space on the upper floor utilises a verdant pasture which is starting to be a trademark for me in as much as I love to optimise all space opportunities and now most often cover my roofs with a garden or parkland theme. Here I have chosen a long tufted grass to give the feel of the meadow and have added two rows of my single prim cypress trees.
There is a teleport between the three floors.
As is usual with my builds the residence comes as a largely unfurnished product and with the following items included:
Plunge Pool, 2 x Sun Loungers, 2 x 4 Cypress Trees, 3 x White Sofas, 3 x rugs
(Optional furniture prim count = 49 prims)
