Draw clothes, skins, tattoos or whatever you want, directly onto the SL avatar model! Texture design software for Windows (XP, Vista, Win7, Win8; 32 or 64 bit).
It's been nearly 10 years since I first released AvPainter, and now it's time to say goodbye. I will no longer be able to offer any support, and there's no further development planned, so I'm making the software available to everyone for no charge.

Current owners, you can download the new version using the url you previously used. Re-rez your AvPainter Computer object in world to get the url again.
AvPainter is a tool to aid the creation of clothing for Second Life, allowing you to preview clothes and draw directly onto the avatar model. It is a separate application that runs in Windows, outside of Second Life, exporting targa (.tga) texture files to upload into SL.
You buy the AvPainter package which contains these instructions and a AvPainter Computer. The AvPainter Computer is a stylish computer model that you can keep out in your SL home if you wish. On rezzing, the AvPainter Computer will give you your own registration code and url for downloading the full version.
The full version of AvPainter occasionally checks for updates. You will be able to download any updates for AvPainter for no extra charge.
Although they can run side by side, AvPainter runs best without SL running. SL tends to grab a lot of texture memory and slows AvPainter a lot.

Help
-----
Full instructions are included with AvPainter (via Help->Show Instructions menu option).
- Paint clothes directly onto a Second Life avatar
- Paint sculpties
- Paint OBJ files
- Easy to use, deceptively powerful
The Good...
The best feature is simply the ability to preview the skins you make in photoshop on an AV before you waste lindens on an upload.
It's also EXTREMELY useful for getting things lined up properly. I recently made a pinhead avatar and found that a rough sketch on the AvPainter to get the grid for the pins on his head before I started the detailed work in photoshop made everything look much more realistic.
The mirror function is VERY handy! This enables you to concentrate on one side of the AV (Like an ear for instance) and you know that the other side is being taken care of for you :)
The Bad...
This is more of a gripe with the way a skin is created than a problem with this program... But... the tools really struggle when moving over seams. Especially the blend tool, I'd like to see that tweaked a little.
What would be greeeeeaaat....
The abilty to paste an image onto the skin is very useful.. BUT... its far too limited. Being able to rotate and resize the image as you paste it in place would be a huge benefit. As would a clone tool.... I guess I just want this to be photoshop.. but in 3D!! Hmmmmmmm.... now that would be nice!!!
Overal....
The AvPainter is best used to make some rough sketches to get everything positioned correctly.... Then save the image file and use it as a guide layer in photoshop... Once you've done all the detailed work... go back to AvPainter and break out the blend tool to smooooth things over, especially around those seams.
Swap back and forth between programs for final tweaks then upload and enjoi!
As a tip... Its much much easier to use this tool by pasting images onto the skin in layers.. and then using the eraser tool on a soft setting to blend into the previous layers than it is to paint with the paintbrush. Although, the lack of a rotate function on the pasting options makes this approach frustrating at times. It's also worth noting that some areas (like the back of the head) will streeeetch your imagine more than others.. (like the fornt on the head!) Which leaves you yearning for resize!
All in all it saves heaps of time and makes you produce better skins! Which is what it's designed for! :D
If you design skins.. You simply MUST by this program. It's a non-brainer!
This program has changed the way I make clothes in sl forever. I can't believe how easy it is to use, and to create amazing clothes to wear and sell in minutes, instead of hours. NO MORE going back and forth from photoshop to sl, trying to make sure lines match up, trying to make seams seamless, and trying to make sure the top matches the bottom! This program solves all that nonsense and makes it easy to make any clothing you want! 10 out of 5 stars!
Excellent product for editing or making clothes from scratch, will recommend to anyone and everyone interested in making clothes!!
Also the customer support is awesome, can't ask for anything better.
Thanks for a great product, I hope to see it only get better with updates!!
agree with earlier review excellent for checking before upload
WOW - set up on my PC took me a bit but finally i got the demo to work and within 10 minutes of playing with the demo i knew i wanted the full version. Great for any level of designer!
