AvPainter is a tool to aid the creation of clothing for Second Life, allowing you to preview clothes and draw directly onto the avatar model. It is a separate application that runs in Windows, outside of Second Life, exporting targa (.tga) texture files to upload into SL.
You buy the AvPainter package which contains these instructions and a AvPainter Computer. The AvPainter Computer is a stylish computer model that you can keep out in your SL home if you wish. On rezzing, the AvPainter Computer will give you your own registration code and url for downloading the full version.
The full version of AvPainter occasionally checks for updates. You will be able to download any updates for AvPainter for no extra charge.
Although they can run side by side, AvPainter runs best without SL running. SL tends to grab a lot of texture memory and slows AvPainter a lot.

Unbelievably awesome tool for SL content creation. Did I miss something? Since when is $10.00 USD expensive for software? I am completely baffled by the complaints regarding the price of this product. As a matter of fact I can say I would honestly have purchased this for 5 times the price and still would have found it reasonable. It is an extremely useful tool for a niche market which has no other tools like this. The documentation is thorough. I needed to install a few things to get this up and running but no big deal, support was provided including relevant links in the readme.txt. True this won't work if you don't have Microsoft verified programs on your computer like one poster indicated. But um, well that means that the Microsoft programs you have on your computer are illegal. So you are surprised the program won't work for you? Sheesh.
As for the poster who said she teaches Clothing classes in SL and finds this program a waste and useless. WOW! Sounds a bit like sour grapes to me. Being able to draw on directly on the 3d avatar is incredible. So I don't understand why she finds it useless.
As for what you can do with this program. Well would you expect a paint brush to paint for you? What I mean by that is yes this is a simple program. But it is as powerful as the talent inside the user. I believe an experienced talented person could use this program extensively and almost exclusively to create amazing SL content. But used in conjunction with Photoshop it is all the more powerful. Sometimes however, simple is better.

If your going to make clothing in SL, this program is a must have, great updates. And it just keeps getting better and better. I love this program, thanks so much. Before this program I had to upload an outfit 4-5 times just to get it to line up right, now my uploads are right every time.
Works beautifully. Great program! Very easy to use and Pootle was very helpful.
This thing has saved me days of work. It isnt the most feature packed graphics package, but transferring between this and gimp gives amazing results. Highly reccomended.
