The most realistic Answering Machine Simulation available in Second Life
I think This Device can record the calls from any phone lines that I called to here. like an Offline IM in Second Life!
Useful part of a realistic telephone system.
It works exactly as it's supposed to, more or less. Nice and useful... or so I assume.
Testing notes:
- One oversight/possible limitation with the system - when using a phone with a set callback number, which you most often want to do with the Attendant, it shows up on caller ID and its own display as being the callback number - which is what you want. But when you ANSWER a call with that phone, it shows its 'hidden' number to the caller with the "[x] has connected/disconnected" message, which is not necessarily desirable behaviour.
- When a call is placed to the Attendant, it doesn't get logged as a missed call on Office or Slimline phones that ring - even if the caller hangs up before the Attendant answers, or if the Attendant is switched off, both of which surely SHOULD count. The incoming number does still get added to the redial list on those models, so it's clearly seeing them.
- When calling an Attendant on a line where all phones are unavailable, why can't it immediately activate and record a message instead of returning a busy signal? I don't know if that's how it works in real life, but it's not so convenient if for example you'd still like messages to be taken while you're in DND mode.
Necessary addition to the NorPhone system for personal use.
You know you're not going to be home for 90% of the calls that come through, don't you?
Well, this is the answer to that issue.
While a commercial service may have people sitting around in front of a phone, you and I are out doing things around the world, when calls come in and we're not home they just ring until the caller gives up and sends an IM instead.
With this connected to your phone they can leave a message, keeping it in the RP without going to IMs, and you can call them back when you get in...
And talk to *their* answering machine :P
While it is more complicated than just sending an IM it allows for more immersion in the world and is well worth using for anything that is not a pressing issue in need of an immediate response.
