This little tool relays open chat to a Discord channel on a Discord server. it is one-way only, from SL to Discord. The chat appears in Discord using the display name and profile picture of the avatar. It doubles as a Discord Server Joiner / Discord Server Invite, so you can have your users join your Discord server easily.
How does it work?
The relay is chat activated, like your smartphone with "Hey Siri" or "Okay Google". Once you write the command - the default is "Oi Discord" - open chat is transmitted to Discord.
It transmits a maximum of 100 lines of text for a maximum of 20 minutes. Both values are configurable, the default is 5 lines of text within 60 seconds. The maximum limit is deliberate in order to avoid the object to siphon open chat indefinitely. Please contact me if you need a version without limits.
Once activated, the relay announces the relaying in open chat, indicating for how many lines of chat and for how long it relays. This gives avatars present enough warning to shut up if they don't want their chat relayed. Consequently, the relay also announces when it stops relaying. It only relays actual avatar chat and ignores objects. The chat appears in Discord using the display name and profile picture of the avatar.
The Mesh object
From version 1.4 on, an exclusive mesh object is included in the package. The mesh object is an original design, explicitly made for this product and optimized for SL. It is superior to all other Discord mesh logos you can currently find on the Marketplace, so there is no need to pay extra or go with a substandard solution.
The mesh object has an "on-air lamp" extension, that becomes visible when the relay transmits chat to Discord and switches off when the transmission stops. The white logo-area in the middle of the blue-ish bubble (Discord named this colour "blurple") doubles as an error indicator. If the Discord relay encounters any error, the face turns from white to red.
The behaviour of the "on air lamp" gets controlled via the "Discord Relay On Air Light" script. This script is included with full permissions, so you can alter or change its behaviour.
The mesh object comes in two versions. The standard version has a high level of detail (LOD) and looks good from afar and thus working great outdoors, but at the cost of having a land impact of 9. There is a second version which has just a land impact of 2, but looks less good from afar. This version is ideal for indoor spaces.
Other features
If an avatar touches the object, they get an instant message telling them how to activate the object.
If an avatar touches the object, the device can act as a Discord Server Joiner / Discord Server Inviter, giving the avatar the URL to join the Discord server. Within Discord, you can create an invite URL (attention: by default it is only valid one day - you need to actively change that) for any channel on your server.
If someone in open chat mentions Discord in a sentence - not the trigger phrase - the object advertises itself. I am unsure about this feature and might take it out or make it configurable in a future version.
The relay reports region restarts to the designated channel. It uses a map-view of the sim as icon for those purposes.
Extensions
From version 1.5 on, the Relay's functionality can be extended by drop-in scripts. Not everybody needs all the functions I get asked to develop or come up with myself, so I decided for this approach. Available extensions are listed as "Related Items" under this listing.
Known Issues & Limitations
Please be aware that this is a one-way-chat only, from SL to Discord. Two-way chat would need to have a server object outside of SL - which would incur not only a massive deal of development but would also incur running costs and create security and privacy issues. If you require two-way-communication, you might want to investigate into SL-Bots.

Be sure to read the instructions, Peter explains things overly clearly, and very easy to follow. He contacted me to get feedback, and was beyond kind and helpful, easy to chat with. I really llike his products and have been using them on mulitple sims I have run. i highly recomend them.
very simple, practical and cheap
Very simple to configure, create your account in Discord, create your own server with a channel for each radar you intend to purchase. It's done!

Very entertaining to use, one feature i would like is for it to " listen " to local chat for key words or phrases so " I " could have a log of it, and deal with any nasty comments from people, I.E ban people when I'm not there, other than that its a great product

It works!
This is an excellent tool to add to your Discord Relay. It is a great way to connect in-world communication to people not currently logged in. It gives you great options for getting permission to use it and makes it obvious when it's on, so your visitors don't have to worry about being recorded against their will. You can tell that the creator put a lot of thought on maintaining TOS and people's privacy with this. I love it and all the products that go with the discord relay!
