I'm proud to present this Falling Snow System - a mesh based snow making HUD which focusses on natural swirling snowfall to add to your winter scene. You can create an area of snowfall and choose from a variety of snow fall parameters. You can customise your snow fall area - for example - add more falling snow along a road area or remove snow from inside building. Operates at ground level or on a sky box.
For the full effect, go see (inworld link below) or check out video (link below)
In the box:
1. *Skye Snow Machine (HUD) - attached to your HUD (resize if required see Tip #5 below)
2. "Skye Snow" object - use this only if you want to rez extra snow modules. Not required to start with.
Control parematers include
Auto rez - calculates parcel size and boundaries and rezzes falling snow modules to fit
Specific Area rezzer - offer choice of areas of snow rezzing
Snow Type - controls intensity of snow flake
Snowfall speed - how fast it falls
Wind Speed - creates horizontal movement
Hide/show handles - to easily customise snow fall location.
Delete all snow - for deleting test rez areas and for spring time!
DANGER WARNING KEEP OUT ALIENS: this is a mesh snow system and therefore is not suitable for high click situations like a store, event, fair or club. I advise using a particle system for high click areas.
Note. This system creates snow swirling and falling through the air. It will not change the appearance of the ground or objects ie cover them in snow. No matter how much you would like that to happen. I'm sorry.
Prim Count: This is a mesh based snowfall system and uses LI (land impact or prim count)
e.g. a 40m x 40m area will have a prim / land impact of 6 (or for e.g. a 80m x 80m will be 24 prims)
**** FAQ ****
Q: MY HUD IS TOO SMALL!
A: Worry not! See Handy tip 5 below.
Q: Snow won't rez on my land!
A: Check your group settings! We don't want to rez snow randomly on your neighbour's land so the systems checks to make sure that you or your group own the land. So it helps if you set the HUD to the land group of the land you want to rez on.
Q: Hey, I don't want snow falling inside my house/club/gazebo/outhouse
A: No worries! The system is customisable - just move the snow module out of / above your house or delete it.
Click the Reveal Handles button on HUD. Use the handles on top of snow modules to grab and edit the module using SL tools. (also see Handy Tip #4 below)
Q: Hey, I bought this thinking that the snow would land on the ground and make my land all snowy.
A: Sorry, no can do. You will need to use terrain textures or snowy mesh objects to achieve snowy ground. (see related items below)
Handy Tip #1 : You can add extra snow modules to create areas of more intense snowfall.
Handy Tip #2: Try linking two adjacent snow modules for extra swirlyness
Handy Tip #3: A snow module is about 14m tall (which I found pretty good for all my scenes) but you can make double height snow (or more) just by stacking more modules on top by either flying your AV above snow fall and using the HUD to rez more - or manually drag a snow module from inventory on to a revealed module handle.
Handy Tip #4: Need more intense snow round a building - eg at front door - without the snow entering building? rez an extra module or two from inventory and shrink them down 50% or so - gives more detailed flurries of snow in just the right places.
Handy Tip #5: If the HUD is too small or too big for your particular screen - it's modifiable - use EDIT tools to change the size. Right click on the HUD and choose EDIT. In the EdIt window check STRETCH and it's easier if SNAP is unchecked. Grab a corner and drag it to a size that works for you. The HUD can also be minimised when not in use.
Awesome!
Love this so much! I know there is a lot of snow things on the MP, but Skye has always been an awesome creator to buy from, I'm really in love with their current updates as well with somethings, but for this product, it's amazing! The HUD is easy to use and the snow is even easier to place! You don't need to use the hud to place the snow either, you can just rez out what you need, resize and work. If you don't want snow in your home, Use Alt+Ctrl+T to turn on invisible prims and you can see exactly where the snow will be hitting :)
very very realistic but remember it IS mesh
very realistic and very customizable - note! add at the end - t his is a mesh system and will be everywhere - on top of your build - either use the hud and clear it while you are building - or just wait until the end - you do not want to be trying to grab something inside the snow! but an amazing look.
nOT FOR ALL
THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT IF YOU HAVE A VERY LARGE OPEN SIM WITHOUT A NEAR BY HOUSE
IF YOUR WORKING WITH A SMALLER SIM , you'll have snow In your house , no matter how you rez the snow particals away from the house
I will still use this in the future if I have a much largr sim
Wonderful.
No, you can't click through the snow, but as someone who owns every notable snow system available, be advised that you can't click through any snow on SL made in this way. Also, it didn't kill my FPS when I had it out, and that is why I go back to this system every time; beautiful, easy, worth it.
wow
i was torn between this and the botanical weather. all i wanted was snow and after checking reviews i opted for this and i was definitely not disappointed, the auto rez feature is incredible which is what i clicked the first time i used it few minutes ago and it filled my land perfectly and the right height so nothing was inside my future home. in fact the snow stopped just under the floating home so i didnt have to adjust a damn thing its incredible. im in awe.
So lovely, so customizable
Beautiful flakes and movement! Don't worry over the few low reviews...just install it sensibly...and think of the benefits in a product from a reliable, solid creator. We have all used particle generators and badly scripted moving mesh / prim objects...this is no lag generator like so many of those...it's well-scripted....and as far as clicking and 'sitting' in things goes...well, I don't have the rotating snow panels positioned be in my home!! Geez. Read the description on what it is...have a club?...want snow in the dance area?...get a particle generator. I have it above and all around each outer wall of my home. In the places where there is outdoor seating on my sim, I simply arranged the turning snow panels so that the seating is in the gaps between at the corners which I arranged and positioned. Can't tell there are gaps unless you installed it, hardly even then, and no visitors have noticed any. They just see dense, swirling flakes everywhere but in my home and yes, we can use my seating everywhere. Careful, mindful arrangement of the snow and my seating and sim layout. It wasn't difficult. To me, another great product from Studio Skye. Amazing how many bad reviews on the MP are due to operator error...
