This script has been specially crafted to be as smooth as possible with various configurable options such as Speed/Cycle Rate/Range of Motion.
You won't have to worry how your creation is rotated either. This script has been made to work with all creations. However if your build does rotate incorrectly, simply rotate the main pivot point of your swing until the rotation is correct, after that initial step is taken care of you don't need to worry about anything else.
To change the settings of the swing. Open the script. You will be presented with the following...

float update_rate = 0.01;
integer speed = 2;
integer distance_of_motion = 18;
// SETTINGS //
By tweaking each settings, the swing will have a different effect. The default settings are best suited for a steady swing, that isn't too aggressive.

This is exactly what I needed! The only suggestion I would make is to make the root prim an invisible prim at the top of the swing. I love how when I clicked my swing to stop, it resets back to the start position. Thank you MBC!
