make sure to at least read the directions before commenting or rating an item. especially an item which is free and i am sure it works.

i am not updating this item at this time. the idea of a nearby chat extender isn't great for second life. this is a low lag nearby chat extender, and it causes so much server chat lag it's not worth it really. it generally causes more harm than good, because people are expecting to see messages extended, and it doesn't work correctly. i've seen other people try to make something like this and it just misses half of the messages for one reason or other. mine gets almost all, but doubles or triples the chat lag. due to the increased lag i've also seen normal nearby chat miss sending the "message" to other avatars (which you would never expect. you expect nearby chat to be perfect) . it has to do with the way SL was designed. SL was not tested with that much chat lag by the developers, so when you add 2-3x the chat lag, it creates problems like this. i suggest having a group or channel to communicate across a sim instead of a nearby chat extender to communicate, or use something similar to this to connect 2 points like a landing point with the main area.

i know nearby chat extenders have problems is because i use multiple avatars within close proximity using multiple computers and devices where i can see the chat on all the avatars at once.

you don't have to take my word for it. i used this for months in my club and it worked fine. you are welcome to try it for yourself. you don't notice much chat lag with 5 or less avatars within 100 meters. more avatars increase exponentially every type of nearby chat extender, because every message needs to be "checked" if the avatars are within 20 meters of each other. sadly that adds more lag than the SL servers handle well.

This is probably the best nearby chat extender for second life, and it's free. the focus is on low lag, and it's full permissions and transferrable.

## instructions ##

i suggest position the "ears" 10 meters apart to get all nearby chat (if you want to get whispers also, put the ears 5 meters apart). you don't need to read the instructions to set this up. ncemain is the mouth and nce are the ears. the ears and mouth hear and talk in spheres. if you have problems setting this up read the notecard. that's why i made the instructions notecard.

if this does not transmit the nearby chat there are only 2 known reasons. 1. second life nearby chat occasionally does not transmit nearby chat text to everyone. 2. the scripts have crashed and you need to reset the scripts (use the included nce resetter object)

if you are 15-20 meters away from a person you may get the nearby chat message and the nearby chat extender message. this is intentional.

if people are moving their avatars or a lot of messages are being sent to nearby chat quickly it may send duplicate messages or transmitting nearby chat when further than 20 meters (nearby chat has a maximum range of 20 meter radius sphere). this is a problem all nearby chat extenders have. the best prevention to this is to make a chat extender which operates with low lag and rez more "ears" than just enough to cover the area.

i've been using this for months and it doesn't really ever miss transmitting nearby chat. it doesn't require any rights other than rez rights to use. this will extend nearby chat from 20 meters up to 100 meters.
