1952 COE wrecker/Car Hauler
COE stands for Cab Over Engine-everyone made COE style trucks. Federal regulations limited the length of the different classes of trucks. It was a sayfty thing. The engines were getting powerful enough to pull lots of weight. They didn't have disk brakes back then. They all had drum brakes. The new rules on length ,were an attempt to limit how much a truck could carry. The manufactures attempted to circumvent the rules by making the cab shorter so the cargo space was larger(hence they could carry more weight)The easiest way to do this was place they driver over the engine-they all did it -very competitive!
