about leatherbackturtles:

The largest marine reptiles in the world, the Leatherback Sea Turtles or Baulas as they are known in Spanish, come to Las Baulas Marina National Park in Costa Rica in huge numbers during the months of November to April to mate and lay their eggs. Also the world’s largest turtles, Leatherbacks can weigh up to 500kgs. Unlike other turtle species that have a hard shell, Leatherback turtles have a black tough leathery skin.

Leatherback seat turtles are critically endangered, thier population have declined over 90% during the last 20 years and could be extint in the Pacific within the next 15 years. Costa Rica has long recognized the need to protect the ecological integrity of the sea turtle nesting beaches to enhance hatchling production.

The Las Baulas (Spanish for Leatherback turtle) Project in Costa Rica is dedicated to protecting and understanding the population of turtles nesting in the National Park so that the species may be saved. The project is run by Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne and Drexel Universities. The project takes place each year during the nesting season from late September to March. Local community members and volunteers from the non-profit organization, Earthwatch, come to protect nesting turtles and collect vital information on nesting biology. This information is provided to MINAET and the general scientific community in order to develop the most effective strategies for management and conservation of the endangered population.

I saw this turtle on a public beach ...
and I fell in love ...
I spent hours watching her lay her eggs in the sand, and beautiful baby turtles come out.
Thank you creator, for making me happy in my SL.

I been in love with the leatherback turtle for years. A friend's SIM has one and I enjoyed it so much I purchased one for my beach. Set up is a little tricky since you need to get the angles just right for the turtle to craw out of the water and onto the beach to lay her eggs.
