Hey SEAFANS! I have been out of the loop on mer creation in SL for a LONG wile and I'm dropping some free tester tail samples on some tails I was previously working on before I left. I'm doing this in order to gauge all interested parties looking to give feedback on what it is everyone is looking for in more mertails in SL moving forward!!
I'm looking to hear feedback about the following:
fit
rigging
quality of the mesh
shape
quality of the texture
Please let me know if you feel it has the potential to be a tail you would wear in the future if updated!
***Please keep in mind a few things moving forward***
These mesh tails were originally meant to fit Lara body and Jake body sizes and it never had the chance to be rigged to the bento tail bones and also doesn't work with sizing sliders.
With that being said, this tail is a 5joint rig!
for those who don't know... "5joint" mertail rigging is positioning one of the bones for a leg to act as a bento tail bone, there is currently only 1 AO ( that i'm aware of) available on market that has the option of 5 joint animations and that's the Tala AO found here.

An original AO previously on market known as the "5joint AO" has been removed by it's creator, however many of us still own it and it also works perfectly with this tail's rigging, but I understand that the original 5joint AO is also having scripting ERROR issues!!!
This can be fixed FIY♥ by turning off script errors in your preferences under your notifications tab.
Another thing to keep in mind during your feedback is mesh art styles! Some creators like myself lean more on the textures to carry the mesh rather then others who enjoy sculpting every detail into the mesh neither is right or wrong just personal preference for the creator.

a really really REALLY good tail
Picked this up while trying out tails for a mermaid avi I wanted to make, and I wanted to drop some feedback and notes for the creator like requested!
Fit - I only use Maitreya so I can't give feedback on the Jake fit, sorry :< It is partially fitmesh, you will need to adjust your shape as the fitmesh rigging isn't 1:1 to the Maitreya. I think moving forward, a more accurate fit around the hips would be more friendly to the end user.
There appears to be a bit of clipping on the lower back/butt area with some animations even with using the Maitreya HUD alpha, not sure if this could be remedied with a custom BOM alpha?
Rigging - It's rigged like butter, it moves so nicely and smoothly. It's a total treat to watch it animate! Also, because it is rigged to the left leg, you can customize the length! That was really nice!
Quality of the mesh - According to Firestorm, this tails clocks in at a whopping.... 524 complexity and 2.8k tris. I'm an absolute sucker for optimization, so a tail that looks this smooth AND isn't a fiend to render is drool-worthy. Seriously. I love you for this.
Shape - This tail isn't as ornate as a lot of others popular on the market right now, but that's fine enough for me. It's a classic mermaid, it looks good. It fits my needs fine enough.
Quality of the texture - The textures are nice, high quality, and the materials are so shiny and tasty. As a bonus, the UV is sooo simple and clean! This would be a total dream for people making mods for it!
The 5-Joint Tail AO by Bakemonoya works beautifully with this mesh, as an alternative to the linked Tala AO. With some fitting at body's "body fat", Torso's "Belly Size" and Legs' "Butt Size", I got the fish scales looks like my second-skin around belly, giggles. oh wait, my AO breath reveal my belly, mmm 1% or 2% smaller than second-skin is just right.. thank you, thank you, it is my lucky day on finding this tail...
