A beautiful antique bed. originally unearthed in India. This colonial bed spans back 160 years. A beautiful work of art, faithfully recreated for your pleasure.
"Original antique colonial four poster bed dating from 1840, the four poster bed was built in India for the Generals and officers of the British Raj due to trading restriction they have been stored away for over a hundred years. They are carved from very hardwood usually mahogany or rosewood in the Victorian style demanded by Queen Victoria's high ranking officers. They were made very large sometimes super king - we suppose because you would have wanted to spread out during the heat of an Indian summer. Originally they would have been covered with mosquito net but look fabulous with traditional drapes or muslin for a modern touch.
This four poster has beautiful barley twist posts and a fabulous hand carved headboard. The crest depicts the lion and the unicorn the official royal coat of arms - a favoured decoration in British Colonial India. This four poster bed will date around 1840"
