as the other reviewer said, this is such a versatile piece! I was actually searching for a "low table" because I couldn't find any so-called "altar" tables I liked. this little table is the perfect height and width (and depth, too, I guess?!) to be an altar or meditation table. it's the perfect height for an avatar sitting on the ground or on a small floor pillow.
all that said, I ended up using this as an outdoor table instead! it looks so nice next to a bench, surrounded by greenery. it would also look very nice indoors, whether in a castle, a mansion, an elven fantasy cottage, or a sitting-room in Versailles. I feel like it would add a certain element of lavish grandeur if it were set down on a beautiful tile or marble floor -- but it looks equally nice sitting in the grass. it would also look great near one of those big white marble statues or sculpted topiary you might see in the "formal garden" behind a stately manor.
