The B52 is an US Airforce Strategic Fortress (bomber) - initialy to bring Nuclear bombs, It was invincible and the first nightmare of USA ennemies for about 10 years. after several modifications it became a bomber abble to bring every kind of US arsenal Bombs and missiles. It was used by the NASA too, to bring the X-15 experimental space ship. It began to fly in 1952 (release A) and got a lot of modifications until today (the H release - the only release in use actualy). It participed to all US conflicts and is still in use. That the plane that stayed in service the longest time (and it probably will be in use for some several other dozen of years). More infos on wikipedia
