About Square Grand Pianos.
Popular during the 19th century and peaking around the 1860s, square grand pianos were the most popular pianos in Europe and N. America. They eventually lost favor to the upright piano's compact design. The square grand's strings run left-right and produces a soft and distinctive sound.
