Thank you for your interest in the Steampunk Chromachron, a slightly quirky way of approximating the time.

Originally conceived as the 'Colour-Time' clock sculpture at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, architect Tian Harlan is responsible for the communication system 'Chromachron' (Chroma=Color ; Chronos=Time) which he originally conceived in 1971.

` Timekeeping is approximated with a rotating disk revolving around a colored timezone. Rotation is gauged by motion without demarcation of minutes or seconds. Each color represents an hour and as the cutaway passes through each - time is visualized, as he hoped, with less rigidity. Detailed in Pieter Doensen's book 'Watch - History of the Modern Wristwatch' as the 'anti-stress watch' freeing us from the 'dictatorship of exact time.'

The hours are assigned the following colours:

12:00 yellow
01:00 orange
02:00 pink
03:00 red
04:00 lilac
05:00 violet
06:00 blue
07:00 green
08:00 turquoise
09:00 brown
10:00 ochre
11:00 beige

How to Read the Chromachron?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a convention clock time is shown by hands and numerals. On a Chromachron, the face is not a dial but a color-time-circle, over which a black mask revolves with a slice cut out as large as a color segment. The mask revolves at the speed of one color section per hour. The mask cut-out indicates the time.

For example, if the cutout is completely filled by yellow, it is 12:00 noon. The more of the following color uncovered, the nearer it is to the next hour. More time reading examples:

Examples:
12:00 means yellow,
12:30 means half yellow, half orange,
12:45 means 1/4 yellow, 3/4 orange.

The Clock features a user menu for its various settings and while these are fairly self-explanatory, we have provided simple instructions below:

1) To open the clock controls, simply click anywhere on the clock.

2) The Main Menu provides the user with the following Options:
a) DST On/Off - Toggles Daylight Saving, [Default = Off]
b) -1 - Increments Time Zone negatively from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT - Default)
c) +1 - Increments Time Zone positively from GMT
d) OK - Closes Menu System

Note the current Time Zone and Settings are displayed at the top of the Menu.
