Guillaume de Machaut was one of the greatest musician/poets of the 14th century. He wrote "Foy Porter."

Foy porter...translators of medieval French say this means "I want to stay faithful", or "Keep Faith". It speaks of the ability for a man to be healed by the love of a woman, likening a woman to the richest of gemstones, as it was then believed one could be healed by these stones. Sapphires, Emeralds, Rubies....You are the true sapphire that can heal and end all my sufferings...bring rejoicing...brighten and comfort the heart.
