Cottage "Ma Maison"
A small story about the cottage:
It is probably build in 1836 because this date is carved in the keystone stone above the door.
Local history told us the first foundations where laid about 300 years ago.
The cottage is originally build as a vineyard but nowadays nothing relates to that anymore.
We can only imagine how it looked back then and how 10 people lived in the house.
During its life until today the cottage had good and bad moments.
During the good moments it was taking care of very well and the habitants did their everyday small reparations to keep it warm and waterproof.
The bad moments happened just "recently", 40 years ago the house was abandoned and left over to the forest.
A part of it ruined and nature took over the place.
In this state an enthusiastic Frenchman fell in love with this cottage and spend over 20 years rebuilding the place to its original glory. He did a very good job and converted a medieval dwelling into a comfortable fairy tail house in the forest. Lots of the original details are maintained. The biggest change was the fireplace, the original one ruined and was lost. The new fireplace is build with stones from other ruins which date back to 1671.
The Frenchman spend many pleasant summers in his small paradise. But as time always tell, a new period came into his life. He had to close the door and leave.
6 years after this moment we fell in love with the cottage.
We picked up the never ending work of caring the place.
And the place takes very well care of us.
It is our RL home .
