It could have been five stars, but it'll need some improvements first

So, I've been looking for a nice-looking mesh updo with a nice, tall bun, and bangs in the front. It turned out that this kind of hair is rarer than hen's teeth in Second Life. Finally, I found this one. The bun looks fantastic. The bangs aren't exactly the Cleopatra-like bangs I was looking for, but they're still good. The price is nice, too. So, I pulled the trigger.

It turned out that this hair doesn't have a HUD to change textures. Also, the folder you're getting doesn't include anything to tell you what colour each version corresponds to, so you have to get used to the non-standard colour names. But these issues aren't exceedingly important.

The major drawbacks with this hair are its permissions and its complexity.

Let's start with the permissions: I know many content creators believe that making their items unmodifiable will protect them from being copybotted. This couldn't be further from the truth. In reality, lack of modify permissions on attachments like hair is a nuisance to a legitimate customer. For instance, with mesh heads you get all sorts of positioning of the ears. This is why unrigged short hair need to be modifiable, so you can resize and move some of their parts (no, the resizing script isn't much help here). Also, it precludes usage in other, interesting outfits - this hairstyle would look wonderful as a latex "hairstyle" on top of a latex hood in a full latex outfit.

The second drawback is the complexity (rendering cost). When you rez it, its Land Impact is an incredible 293, and the complexity is 38,933. This is the mark of an object that hasn't been optimised for Second Life and will be a significant source of lag.

So, while I do like the design, it's not something I can use in crowded areas, and its lack of modifiability means you have to check if it'll fit around your ears. As for me, I won't be able to use it in some outfits I had in mind. Oh well.
