Have you ever been driven crazy trying to make a box with a working top?! I have. Either you get it to work by making cut prims that are hard to texture right, or you end up texturing a non-scripted prim and linking it to the working door lid -- and it gets crazy! The lid doesn't open right or the textures don't tile right.
FINALLY by taking apart a box sold by Molloch Dragovar (very nice old antique box for $22, look it up), I saw that he had an open script made by an oldbie Trullo Oh (no longer in SL), inside an invisible "hinge" -- an oval prim attached to the lid.
Voila, it works!
Be sure that if you unlink the two prims to make your own sizes of lids, that you link it together by first right-clicking on the prim and grabbing the lid in edit, then clicking while in edit mode and grabbing the invisible hinge to link -- that's the root prim, which, despite its name, is the last thing you need to link to. Also keep the "hinge" if resized centered by the box. Otherwise it won't work right.
Turn on highlight/transparent to see the hinge. This is the greatest!
The texture I used to make my jewelry box is by Tru Textures, for jewelry boxes. They have the best textures!
Search on the term "153Fish" to find all the items I've made for the SL Public Land Preserve.
- Use to make your own box lids.
- Contains "hinge" with working open source door script
- Also contains Linden door open and close sounds
Perfect!
Works exactly as intended. Thank you so much for making this! I was scrolling for days looking for this very type of script. Great work!
You are the man!!! Perfect
Yes, it was driving me crazy looking for a script to open a box top, my wife wanted me to build her a toy box and could not find that scrip. This works great! Thank you! a little tip....raise the price, i would of paid more!
