How glass appears to you differs greatly depending on your graphic settings. You can adjust the glass texture to your liking by right-clicking on the glass, choose edit, and choosing 'Select Face'.
Now click on the glass texture on the object and go to the Texture tab in the edit window. Play with the Transparency and Glow to get the results that best fit your graphic settings.
The shadows can be unlinked.

Bought this set to go in a cabinet in my dining room with the Dutchie dining room set and they are very nice looking, low prim and help add to the realism.
