Details

IconTalk is a new, non-verbal, concept communication tool by Eclectic Randomness. Designed as an expansion on the communications implant concept, IconTalk expands the wearer's vocabulary from a simple "yes/no/silence" option, to a more evocative series of conceptual icons, like a crude form of impromptu sign-language. While it was designed with RLV play in mind, IconTalk could easily be used with animal avatars to communicate emotional responses, without breaking RP.

The IconTalk HUD features 26 concept icons with images such as 'heart', 'home', 'night', 'wait', 'key', etc. But the really interesting part is when you start stringing icons together to form sentences. "wait"-"home"-"no"-"heart"-"smile" might be the wearer's attempt to say "no, I don't want to go home, I love it here". Communication still remains rudimentary and challenging, but the breadth of possible ways to use IconTalk is really exciting.

IconTalk comes with 5 small optional Indicator Lamp attachments that light up when the icons are triggered using the HUD. The lamps can be used with the Icon Display, or it can be used without the Icon Display, to turn the IconTalk system into something similar to a "Drone Light". The Lamp will light up with the color set on the HUD. Each of the 5 included lamps has a slightly different appearance, and some have different sounds when the lamps turn on and off.

Stealth - an 'all-black' theme, perfect for fitting into a 'dark drone' look - simple bulb clicks
Chrome - a black theme with a chrome ring. Looks a bit more robotic - sci-fi sounds
XType - a color scheme matching the ER M-Type and F-Type robot avatars - sci-fi sounds
Science - a more 'hard tech' design based on the XType model - sci-fi sounds
Clockwork - a 'steampunk' theme, with engraved brass and brown leather. - special clockwork sounds

Having a hard time without speech? Icontalk is your hero

Posted November 14, 2014 by AlexHidden 5 stars

Ever found yourself without speech because of RLV restrictions?
Didn't want to cheat out, but also not wanted to be mute or just blinking two colours?
Icontalk makes you able to rudimentary communicate to all those that want to see.

Not 100 percent compatible with all vison blocking huds on the market, however if you are able to modify the huds you can move the icontalk hud in front of the others and still be able to use it.

The icons are better noticed due to the little sound that is played when your icons appear or disappear, icons for most basic situations are available. For the cases you can not find the appropriate icon... are you really supposed to be saying that?

Just what I was looking for!

Posted June 03, 2014 by Observation Arcana 5 stars

There isn't really any RLV in this I see that forces the user non-verbal, but that's what other things are for! The textures are small sized so they load very fast, and there's every icon I could ever think of needing to use. Though I was going to suggest to add custom colors or black, I found in the notecard all I had to do was recolor the dots -- amazingly customizable!!
