The AMS-002 is the second spawn of Epsilon's Advanced Mobility Initiative, developed for users who could not afford carrying an AMS-001 Jetpack, either due to weight constraints or additional gear on their backs. The Jetboots proved light enough so that the difference between a normal pair of combat boots wasn't significant, despite being equipped with miniaturized fusion batteries and two thrusters per boot. The deployable wing-like stabilisers on the sides, controlled by a flight computer which made microcorrections in vector 500 times a second, quickly earned the AMS-002 the nickname "Hermes Boots" after the winged sandals of the Messenger God of Greek mythology.
Due to the fact though that the AMS-002's thrust is entirely applied to the feet make the unit considerably harder to use than the AMS-001, requiring extensive prior training by the user.
Like most field equipment by Epsilon Shipyards, the AMS-002 also featured a coating of Adaptive Camouflage Paint.
