VERY IMPORTANT:

1. Before starting to build, we strongly encourage you to rezz a few items to see how they are made and how you will be able to use different parts.

2. Plan your cave before - Check the size it will be and if you need to rescale. Rezz all base shapes and scale them at once. Scaling must be proportional, else it will be hard to match later.

3. If you plan to build your cave at the ground level - first build it and later on terraform according with your build. It will turn things easier, especially if you have a complex floor plan or different levels

WARNING: All items are copy / modify / non transferable. Lightning effects you see are directly baked on textures. We do not provide so called “shadow maps” and we do not give away or sell our textures. All items are in mesh, with custom physics models in order to allow you to walk over it and to fight. This means their land impact might be affected when you scale them.

For example - If you want to scale down a rock, after doing it, you will notice that prim count increases. You can turn the physics shape to Convex hull to reduce LI. Be aware that scaling up or down might lead to unexpected results on LI. Changing physics shape to convex hull will affect the way your avatar will walk over it (might be not realistic, but if the items are small it's ok ). DO NOT CHANGE THE PHYSICS SHAPE OF THE BASE SHAPES, if you do so you will no longer be able to enter the cave.

Looks Good, Pain to use.

If one just wants 45 and 90 degree angles, this set could be used to make a cave system pretty fast. Unfortunately, to use the space I have reasonably efficiently requires angles other than 90 or 45. Doing that makes this set a nightmare to work with. The primary problem is the lips on the cave room entrances. Anything other than a perpendicular tunnel means that stupid lip cuts through, even when using another makers tunnel pieces that are relatively thick. Change the size of one of the rooms? There's that lip again. Get rid of the lip and maybe provide a blending piece to allow for connecting to different sized/shaped/angled tunnels, and I'd give this set 4 stars and be using it instead of waiting for a set of cave rooms to be meshed by a friend so I could use the rest of the parts provided.

To gain the 5th star, a matching or at least compatible texture would need to be provided to allow adding matching rock details to the cave. I should be able to mix and match items and Fanatik is always fanatical about not providing any textures. For a kit this expensive, that is plain ridiculous. Heck, I'd even pay another couple hundred for a texture pack. As it is, I'll likely be doing high rez snapshots to make my own.

A few more cave room options would be nice given the high price of this set. There's no provision for entering through the ceiling or floor.

Finally, a major improvement would be to make these with an outside face piece for use during building. It's a pain lining things up from inside. Once everything was placed and alligned, one could unlink and remove the outer shell if one wished to save on prims or leave in place if one didn't want them transparent for camming.

Given the hassle of actually using this as it is now, I'd have to say look elsewhere. For what this costs, you could buy 2 or 3 kits from other makers that are easier to use and give just as good results.

Honestly, if you find better, please tell me, because as of this writing there is not a better similar product, not even close.

Beautiful But a Pain in the Ass

I have been building in SL for 9 years and while I can appreciate the work that went into this and it is stunning, there is nothing easy in connecting these pieces!

- The transparency of each piece forces you to be inside the piece to verify alignments
- You have to be flying in the piece while building because if standing and connect, you fall through

My biggest issue is not having any textures to work with for true building and customization and for 5k one would expect the textures!

Also some of those exterior rock pieces are high LI including one that is 25 LI

It would also be nice to have a cavern piece that had an opening in the bottom instead of having to use the long ramps to descend. A hole in the bottom of the cavern would also enable the ability to create traps.

And finally I sent Funatik.Resident a notecard 6 days ago and have yet to hear back...

This is a great item and if it had a bit more cavern piece variation and included textures and better customer service it would be 5 stars!

Currently putting the caves together under my sim, really lets me use all the space we have. my only complaint is that there's only one kind of cave, I do wish there was a more wintery version with lighter stone, maybe even ice caves? But hey, totally worth the money and I'm not at all disappointed with it.

Soooo easy to work with...Infact so easy when putting the tunnels together I barely needed to use any of the connector parts that come with it!! Highly realistic looking. Tons of pieces play around with, well worth the price (look at how many parts you are getting to use). If your looking for top quality, you found it....
