A magnificent Bergere (covered armchair) made in carved and gilded wood in the neoclassical style and upholstered in silk lampas with woven medallions depicting three different pastoral scenes and decorated by a lush garland of flowers.
The fabric selected, "La Bouquetière et le Jardinier", one of the most expensive and elaborate silk lampas designed by Philippe de Lasalle at the end of the 18th century, is according to the historical records and researches the same design on which this furniture set would have been originally upholstered in its day. the fabric has been reconstituted from old archives for use in these models.
Richly decorated, the belts and the frame of the backrest are carved with interlaced foliage arabesques, tied in the center of the apron by a ribbon and branches of roses, spiral fluted legs and a backrest finished with a garland of flowers tied together.
Replica of a set composed of a canape, two bergeres, four fauteuils and a fireplace screen made by Jean-Baptiste Tillard in 1778 under the direction of the merchand-mercier Darnault for the Comte de Gamaches. Due to the exceptional quality of craftsmanship, worthy of sovereigns the entire set was purchased in 1784 by the Royal furniture repository to furnish an apartment at the Chateau de Versailles for the Royal visit of Gustave III, King of Sweden.
Later sent to the Chateau de Compiegne to fit the library of Kind Louis XVI.
Currently exposed at the Grand Salon de Madame Victoire at the chateau de Versailles. Paris.
