If you unlink the steps,and have issues:
1)Relink steps to plane,and make sure they are NOT root prim
2)Goto "Features" tab,and set the "Physics Shape Type" to "None"
3)Set the prim you use as walkable to "Prim" in "Physics Shape Type"
a)Some walkable prims can be set to "Convex Hull",so test for best use
