A pretty neat notecard reader that works in a HUD. It will span speech over multiple notecards. It can whisper and shout, or be mute. You can make as many copies as you want for different lectures; change the object name to keep track of what is stored on that Reader.
Right click and "Wear" to start using. It comes loaded with a short tutorial that it will cover basic operations. There is a notecard included with additional instructions.
Note: Due to a limitation of the scripting language, single lines can only be 255 characters long--you'll have to split very long sentences into multiple lines. Usually this isn't a problem, but seems to be the biggest complaint with this product.
(December 2012) Version 1.05 is available: this fixes a bug when a script that listens to open chat sees the /me the HUD puts in front of every line. An option in the +Settings card changes this. Also, some other small changes. No need to update if you don't see the /me
- Pre-load text to be typed into chat.
- Controls to allow you to skip around in a chat.
- Easy to set up and use.
Can't Lose!
This does exactly what I needed. Reads the course text and gives me control over pace and even single line back up. The preview of the next line in hover text over the hud is a brilliant idea!! This does so much more than other way more expensive readers I tried I just wish I tried this one first!! At 25L you just can't lose!!!
Excellent!
It's great... could be easier to SEE - font or color change?
If one reads the instructions...it's really good. Thanks!
Oldie but a goodie! 5 stars
I used this today for a presentation for the Aether Salon of New Babbage. I really recommend this over a single-line notecard reader when formatting presentations. It was simple, effective and it's not laggy, hitchy or complex to learn, it just does the job. Perfect for my purpose, thank you.
Marvellous!
I had problems when initially using this as it was putting a "-" in front of text lines and not putting my name in the object. This was simple to solve but took a little while due to me not realising what was causing my problem.
Go to the settings notecard in the HUD and change two settings...
Set CHATPREFIX="your name goes here"
Set SKIP_ME=YES
Then it all works exactly as expected and is wonderful to use!
I am using it for a wedding ceremony and it really is ideal. :)
Five stars :)
Incredibly Useful
I needed something to help with doing flight announcements and simulated tower interaction. I had been doing cut and paste from a notecard, but that was clunky and less than optimal while trying to maneuver an aircraft. I came across this and it did exactly what I needed with even a few extra bells and whistles. I've found other uses for it since. Even being as old as it is, it's a solid product that works well and at a bargain price.
