Awards and decorations of the United States Armed Forces are the military awards including decorations which recognize service and personal accomplishments while a member of the U.S. military. Together with military badges, such awards are a means to display outwardly the highlights of a service member's career.
The SHELLBACK RACK represents the decoration ribbons of a JUNIOR SAILOR or JUNIOR OFFICER, with a few years of service under their belt. The term "Shellback" refers to a sailor or marine that has been through a "crossing the line" ceremony, which is held when their vessel has passed over the equator. Prior to this, junior sailors and marines are referred to as "wogs" or "polliwogs."
The SHELLBACK RACK contains the following ribbons:
- Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM)
- Navy Unit Commendation
- Navy "E" Ribbon
- Good Conduct Medal
- National Defense Service Medal
