Beautiful walnut Dutch chest of drawers, made in the Netherlands circa in 1710. The five graduating drawers are wonderfully inlaid with ebony and boxwood florals and swags, as well as walnut oyster veneers. The top surface is richly inlaid in ebony and boxwood.

In the 18th and 19th century, furniture created in most European countries was heavily influenced by styles adopted by the most politically powerful monarchs and countries: the Dutch, while falling under this general rule, also developed a particular style for their furniture. Thanks to colonialism, they had access to a wide variety of exotic woods from all over the world, and fondly employed them to enrich their mahogany sturdy commodes with highly decorative inlays, along with elements made of burl walnut, oak and other domestic woods. Dutch furniture is well crafted and adorned, but never too ornate: this piece is an example of a chest with simpler lines, for a less formal style.

Louis XIV Style; mahogany, ebony, boxwood. 100% Mesh.
