Japanese Sword Cleaning Set

Japanese sword cleaning animation and items.

- Sword-cleaning tatami mat : place on the ground and sit to start the animation.

- Japanese Sword Cleaning Kit : place on the mat.

Cleaning a Japanese sword (nihonto) is a very serious and careful process. Great care is taken to use only traditional materials and techniques.

This animation shows the final stage of the cleaning process where a thin layer of "choji oil" (clove oil) is applied to a katana blade using soft rice paper.
