LADDER OF DIVINE ASCENT ICON

This is a reproduction of an icon of the Ladder of Divine Ascent from the vision of John Climacus. It is one of our “decorative” or “mute” icons — it is merely a reproduction of an image, as opposed to our “talking” icons, which display quotes from Scripture when touched.

Our icons are created for private use and display in churches and other places in SL. They should not be resold or adapted for resale. Their size and position can be modified. Copy and Transfer permissions depend upon the particular version of the icon purchased.

ABOUT THIS ICON

The Christian saint and mystic John Climacus described the Christian life as a ladder to heaven. In this icon, monks ascend the ladder, encouraged by angels and tempted by demons, with Christ welcoming those who reach the summit into Heaven. The original for this icon dates from the 12th century and is located at St. Catherine’s monastery, Sinai. The work is in public domain due to its age. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Ladder_of_Divine_Ascent_Monastery_of_St_Catherine_Sinai_12th_century.jpg
