A FEW SUGGESTED USES
1) Clubs or venues. Have your patrons use sim chat so you can all chat sim wide, have your staff use a custom channel to for private discussions.
2) Combat / roleplay. Use sim chat for general activity or for trash talk, each faction can use their own channel to co-ordinate activities.
3) If you have land on multiple sims, or your activities are grid wide, consider getting a chat server, set up your own chat rooms and chat with people grid wide.
4) Groups - when some of your members are extra chatty or want to chat off topic and you don't want to annoy or distract your regular members, set up a chat room using an in world chat server.
Overview
SIM WIDE CHAT
The bottom 2 buttons are for chatting with people on the same sim as you only, all messages are instant and uncapped.
You can connect to Sim wide chat on a default channel that everyone wearing the HUD can connect to and chat on. This is the 2nd button from the bottom. To toggle chat on and off press and hold the button for 2 seconds.
You can choose a channel to chat with people on the same sim that are wearing the HUD, you will need to tell people which channel you are on as there are 100,000 available. This is the bottom button on your HUD. To get the menu press and hold this button for 2 seconds.
GRID WIDE CHAT
The HUD allows you to connect to up to 3 grid wide inworld chat servers all at once. These are the top 3 buttons.
Things you need to know :
1. You can add up to 12 chat servers per HUD, but you can only connect to 3 servers at a time.
2. To add a Server you will need the server key, this will be provided by the server owner.
Give the server a memorable name so that you can easily identify it from your list of servers, it needs to be 20 characters or less.
3. All messages are sent from your HUD so don't take it off when the button is pale blue.
If a recipient is on the same sim as you the message will be sent using llRegionSayTo, its super fast and you can send 200 messages every 10 seconds.
If the recipient is not on the same sim messages will be sent by Instant Message. Due to SL limitations you can only send 2500 IM's per rolling 30 minutes.
The HUD will display how many IM's have been sent, keep an eye on this and if you are getting close to the limit either slow down or simply move to another Sim, as limits are per sim!
Bare in mind if you send 10 messages to 10 people this will count as 100 messages
4. Only the middle button (Grid chat) will work in non script areas, performance will be slow due to SL limitations.
