When you rez the cauldron you will be asked if you want to use it as a tip jar. The default is "NO" and the menu times out after 30 seconds. So if you select "NO" or don't make a selection at all the cauldron will just behave as a magic cauldron for the owner only (spells selected from a menu pop up).
If you select "YES" the cauldron becomes a tip jar and plays a random spell every time someone tips. Even in tip jar mode the cauldron will still respond to the owner and play a chosen spell.
If you want to change the mode later, all you need to do is re-rez the cauldron to get the initial menu.
