Fun and excellently implemented
This is a very fun feature to add to Second Life and the way it's set up is impressively sophisticated and works seamlessly. The custom phone numbers and public listings add an exciting level of customization and community to the system. As one might expect, however, it isn't the most efficient and direct form of communication in SL, so I don't get to make calls very often as there's usually no one around on the other end to pick up the phone, but when I do get to connect to someone it's a lot of fun. Getting a model with the speakerphone feature (not on this one) makes it even better since anyone near you can witness the fun and join in too
It's actually modifiable
Not that it does any good for the more enterprising user since all the features are hardcoded; there's no way to, say, use the scripts in your own phone model - which is the only grievance I have with this, the lack of variety. Even a rotary dial version would be great. The fact that the various themes you can use for this model are selected from a web database rather than the usual dialog menu is interesting.
As something of a retro geek, a virtual landline connection tickles a special fancy and I wish there were more adopters for this thing. I guess as a roleplay element it's invaluable.
Great Phone! ATM instructions backwards tho
The phone works great and the signup works great too - but only after you purchase a phone.
If you try to go to the Account ATM first like it seems to indicate, you won't be able to make an account that way, it just gives an error.
Purchase a phone first, it will add you to the group, and you can click the phone to configure it. Working as of 5/1/2017.
Really nice semi retro phone. And I mean REALLY NICE
Ok, I was very skeptical on these "phones". But I figured what the hell... Well, let me just tell you these things ROCK. Very very impressed. I am a region owner and the integration I am able to do is impressive. Room for improvement? Yes, I'd love to have the handset auto attach to my avatar (using an Experience?) automatically. That would complete the effect!
