Materials shine is enabled because there is almost nothing worse than those crappy fake-shine textures that you get with most glasses out there. It's never looked good, but people keep making those lame looking textures.

If you're on lower graphics settings and can't see materials shine, you can still turn on system "Shiny" though it won't look as nice..

There is no resize script because resize scripts are horrible, lag-inducing tools of the devil. The glasses are modify for a reason. Make a copy first, then learn to do basic object editing.
