This is a basic, rudimentary RLV trap.
Assuming the person who pulls the screwdriver out is wearing an RLV relay and has RLV enabled, it works like this:
The top hemisphere slams down.
It gives them an RLV folder.
5 seconds later it goes critical with sound effects and a blue flash.
The folder is then forced to be worn and they are stripped. The folder contains a skeleton avatar that should conform roughly to the height and proportions the person had before being skeletonized.
RLV is only used to strip the person and make them wear the skeleton mesh. It doesn't actually trap them or anything, so they can change back any time.

For those who don't know what the Demon Core is,
the short of it is that it's the plutonium core for the third nuclear bomb that America was going to drop on Japan before they surrendered. So instead of dropping it, it was given to some really stupid scientists who decided to put it in a neutron reflecting case and see what it would take to get it to go critical without using explosives. It killed 2 people before it was destroyed, and the last person it killed was messing around with it by shoving a screw driver in it to hold the lid open. It's letting the lid close that makes it go critical, and the screw driver slipped and fell onto the ground. Both times it went critical, a bright blue flash went off and it began emitting intense heat. The scientists overseeing this dumb experiment took a lethal dose of radiation and died.
It has since become something of a meme on the internet and there's a number of demon core video memes on YouTube.
