This model is inspired from a radio many people may have spotted in the Capital Wasteland and Mojave Desert, but it's entirely hand-made and surface transferred from a 120k polygon sculpt down to a 904 polygon model ready for SL.
This allowed me to capture the fine details from my high-poly model and generate various other maps and masks that I used to blend and build up the 6 included texture variations. The radio will also include it's normal and specular maps when we see materials support, making the details stick out and catch light nicely.
The model has 4 hand-made LODs and a physics shape, so it will not decompose into a pile of poo as you move away from it. The lowest LOD is 15 polygons, making it friendly to look at from a distance and for a cost of 2 prims*.
The radio is scripted to play sound effects / music, and is fed notecards which contain the sound UUIDs of each song. The radio contains 6 full cylinder recordings dating from the 1920's to the 1950's, including the well-known Ink Spots title: "I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire". You can also add as many of your own songs as you want, too.
The Radiation Queen can play songs randomly or alphabetically once or continuously, and is simply touch to start/stop. Touching the tuning dials will change songs and make the tuning needle scan while the next song loads. Other features include an "Auto Start" option which decides if the radio waits to be tuned when switched on, and a "No Music" option to prevent the radio from playing when it isn't wanted.
Tuning sounds and radio static can be turned on/off, volumes can be adjusted on individual tracks, and controls can be restricted to owner, group or anyone through the easy to use dialog menu. Additionally the radio is modifiable, so it can be resized or de-scripted for use as a completely static prop.
* The tuning needle is a seperate object so it can move and add radio static over playing music. Due to the current Linden script penalty with mesh, the cost is forced up to 2 Land Impact. If this is a major concern, the needle can be removed, putting the cost down to 1 Land Impact.
The music supplied with this radio is Public Domain under Creative Commons.

Fantastic sound quality!
I was sold the moment I saw the radio design. Now that I've unpacked it in-world, absolutely in lurve. My only concern is the number of times I've logged out of SL to go play FO:3 and FO:NV - I can't get any building done, lol!
perfect
needed something like this for my home, i love everything about this
Amazing!
I use this thing like a player in my sim) Work awesome!
fantastique
is really nice radio have good sound of fallout 3 i like it
Great music shuffler, with great starting tracks, especially if you like Fallout
I encountered the notecards this uses some months ago, but only recently found out what they go with. Absolutely perfect, very thematic behavior, and the tracks flow smoothly between segments and don't spend forever buffering like a lot of ones I've encountered. Wonderful piece of work, and looks great to.
Like the previous review, i wanted more songs.
Messaged the creator, sent me some. Love it!
