Road & Sidewalk Kit
Thanks for your interest in the GCD Road & Sidewalk Kit.
PLEASE NOTE!!!!!
This kit has been designed for builders and creators and you will need a good understanding of how to manipulate prims (copy. stretch, rotate etc) and the use of Materials to successfully use this kit.
The kit is comprised of 4 main sections.
1) ROADS & MARKINGS KIT - The roads consist of 3 different sections; straight road and then 45 & 90 degree turns.
The roads use 2 different textures (Straight & Corner - Both included)) You will see the texturing has slight tyre wear but can still be seamlessly matched up both horizontally and vertically. So for example at Road Junctions or Crossings you should be able to get a pretty good seamless texture join. (See the T Junction & X Crossing examples in the kit). (* The kit also now includes a plain Asphalt texture for car parks.)
The road markings are all separate prims - which I know might be a little fiddly and annoying to work with but they are designed to give you maximum flexibility and allow you to easily adjust color and alpha settings. They include a straight section and then inner and outer bends for 45 and 90 degree turns plus you get the pedestrian crossing. The pack uses just 2 main road marking textures (A Solid & A Dashed White Line - Both Included))You should therefore be able to set up similar road markings for just about any country using this kit and don’t forget to link the road markings to the road when your done to lower the land impact.
2) SIDEWALK / PAVEMENT KIT - Here you will find over 50 different parts ranging from simple straight sections to pedestrian and vehicle slopes as well as 45 and 90 degree turns plus drains and manhole covers. You also have a choice of textures for the main sidewalk as well as different colored parking zone curbs and even a grass verge. This modular kit is designed to fit together seamlessly. The kit comes linked to a large 30 Meter prim - it’s a good idea to unlink each part as you need it and use Shift to copy sections inworld. (All Textures and Materials Included)
3) HILL SECTIONS KIT - This consists of 3 main parts ; A road with a 15 degree rise up, A normal straight road section at a 15 degree angle which you can make as long or short as you need and then a 15 degree slope down, along with appropriate sidewalk and road markings sections. Use stretch to make hills as large and high as you need.
4) TEXTURES & MATERIALS
All textures and materials are included in the pack. if you are unfamiliar with using materials the basic principal is that there are 3 texture layers for each object that give extra detail and realism.. The first is the main texture known as a 'Diffuse'. The second is a bump/height map know as a 'Normal' and the third is a reflection /Shine map know as a 'Specular' texture. If you change any of the textures scale don't forget to synchronize all the layers so they are the same scale of things might look a bit strange.
EXAMPLES
The kit comes with several example set ups, including a T Junction, X Junction with pedestrian crossing , Car Parking lay-by and bays. 45, 90 degree turns and straight road sections.

Tedious
This has been by far one of the most detailed ways to put a road together, with great textures. but god help you getting started with the mesh. All of the examples are slapdash,
none of them fit together without massive issues with clipping and spacing that is just bad. Ultimately for 650L you're paying for the textures and street prefabs, but at the same time, I dread having to use this thing because there is no good starting point. Textures for the sidewalk are uneven which makes figuring out their scale annoying when trying to divvy the texture by concrete panel.
This requires way too much manual math to get a decent look and I see tons of sims using this kit too, which fine whatever, but you can see all the same imperfections in their builds as well.
Poor examples leading to poor wonky builds. It all starts from step-one and the first step out of this box is off-kilter.
If the store owner puts out a set of examples that work with eachother at least for the road and sidewalks so I can slap them together without having to adjust every single one, I will change my review
Excellent kit with only one downside
this kit will build all the roads you need but unfortunately, there are only textures for clean roads, no options for leaves or snow, can't even save the textures to your computer and edit them yourself.
