The textures are designed to make it easy to edit and play around with. Simply duplicating the texture layer in photoshop will make the facial hair look darker and thicker.

Its also really easy to get a new and cool facial hair just by combining a few of the textures. See 'Combination example' including in with the demos for an example of mixing one of the goatees with a beard in photoshop.
