Restless Studio Wikimedia Commons Product Frequently Asked Questions
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Where did you get these images ?
A: All images were downloaded from the Wikimedia Commons at
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Q: Were any of the images modified ?
A: Yes, most images were cropped and resized, preserving aspect ratio while preparing them for upload to Second Life in a suitable resolution The seamless textures were extensively modified using ImageMagick so as to provide textures that can be seamlessly tiled.
Q: Why should I buy these images from you when I can download them for free ?
A: Good question. You can freely download the original images from Wikimedia. You may prefer to purchase the cropped and resized versions for a variety of reasons including:
It will cost you more to upload them to Second Life yourself than it will cost you to buy them from me. For instance, a set of 20 images selling for 50L$ would cost you 200L$ to upload yourself.
It's tedious and time consuming to crop, resize, and upload the photos. In addition, Wikimedia contains a wide variety of quality media. It takes a fair amount of time to sift through the large quantity of photos and select the highest quality. You may prefer to spend a small amount to avoid this work.
The photos have been organized by resolution, packaged for easy redistribution, permissions correctly set, and made available within Second Life and/or the Second Life Marketplace. You may prefer the ease and convenience of using and distributing these products rather than organizing, fixing permissions, and packaging yourself.
In some cases the images have been incorporated into a THiNC book for ease of display and viewing. You may prefer this format.
Maybe you wish to support Restless Studio in its effort to bring the beauty of Wikimedia to Second Life :)
Q: Where do I learn about the conditions under which these photos are released ?
A: The Wikimedia Commons (see link above) has a page on reuse of these images:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Reusing_content_outside_Wikimedia
as well as a page detailing the licensing conditions:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Licensing
Q: Can I incorporate these photos into my work/product/art/club/business ?
A: Yes. All of the images have been released under a free license allowing you to reuse, modify, redistribute, even sell the photographs. See the previous question for links to details on licensing conditions. Note that the license conditions require you to pass along the licensing rights so works you distribute that include these images must also be freely licensed. In particular, the images must continue to be copiable, modifiable, and redistributable (full perms).
Q: Where can I find more of these ?
A: Restless Studio distributes many Wikimedia Commons photos in a variety of products available on the Second Life Marketplace at:

Search for "Wikimedia Commons" or "Missy Restless" on the Second Life Marketplace and you should find boxed collections of Wikimedia images of flowers, nature, fungi, outer space, nudes, and more.
