CARD COUNTER FOR EN GARDE - USER’S GUIDE

Thank you for purchasing this Card Counter for the En Garde HUD.
Our products are designed for efficiency and ease of use.

CONSIDERATIONS

Before we start, I would like to make some considerations about using a Card Counter.

Much has been said about using a card counter, can it be considered 'cheating' or not?

This is quite a polemic question.

As a player myself, and after talking with a LOT of players about it, I concluded that about 80% or more of the players asked use some method for counting cards! Be it Excel spreadsheets, Notepad, paper and pencil…. I even knew of someone who piled coins on stacks at the top of the desk to keep track of the cards used.

As a matter of fact, anyone can scroll up the chat box and count the cards already played, the information is all there.

This little HUD only simplifies the job.

By my part, I prefer to see En Garde as a strategy game, rather than a memory exercise.

Anyway, to tell your opponent “I’m using a device to count cards” before a game starts couldn’t hurt. 

INSTRUCTIONS

Well, there is little to say in here. Just wear your HUD and relax! You need to do nothing, just wear it! It will count the cards for you, will warn you when it is perhaps the time to start building your “Last Second Attack” (LSA) and also when to trigger it!

Anyway, there are one or two things you should know:

1 – In some rare special occasions you might want to force the HUD to reset. Just click on it; a menu will be deployed with the following commands:

1.1 – DONE
This is a tricky button. It serves to close the dialog box and resume the normal functioning. This is due to the fact that SL’s “Ignore” button works in a awkward way in some cases. You can still use the Ignore” button, but the script will be lagged for about 15 seconds. For this reason, try to remember to use “DONE” instead.

1.2 – RESET
This will, obviously, reset the Cards Counter HUD to its default values.

1.3 - INSTRUCTIONS
Here you will get this notecard (no need to ask, hm?).

1.4 - OPACITY
This button will deploy a second menu where you will be able to set the transparency of your Card Counter for En Garde HUD.
Default value is 100% (completely opaque).

FEATURES

The Card Counter for the En Garde HUD will count the cards for you. Each time a move is made it will add an “X” symbol in front of the correspondent card’s number. As there are only five cards of each kind, at the end of each turn you will be able to have a nice idea about the hand of your opponent.

“Remaining Cards”

At the bottom right corner of the Card Counter for En Garde HUD there is a number. UNLIKE En Garde’s HUD this reflects the actual number of cards still in the deck., EVEN DURING “parries”, so it will be much more accurate than En Garde’s Remaining Cards display.

Colour Code:

The colour of the symbols in the Card Counter for the En Garde HUD will change accordingly to the number of cards still in the deck, serving as a “warning” for you to start preparing and executing “Last Second Attacks” (LSA).

From 15 to 7 cards remaining: WHITE
From 6 to 3 cards remaining: YELLOW (start preparing your LSA)
2 cards remaining: ORANGE (next move will be LSA time)
1 card remaining: RED (time to execute LSA!)
0 cards remaining: BLUE (there are no more cards in the deck, the turn is about to finish)

Parry Sign:

During a “parry”, a red “P” will appear at the bottom left corner of the Card Counter for the En Garde HUD. This serves to remind you that you (or your opponent) are in the process of a parry/move or attack movement.

And this is all you need to know to operate your En Garde Card Counter HUD!

En Garde!…. and good luck!

Added on version 2.01

Transparency feature.

Differences from previous version (1.12):

COMPLETELY re-written core. Much faster and less resource intensive.

Added a "Remaining" Cards number. UNLIKE the game's HUD, it WILL show the actual number of cards remaining when a parry happens.

Added a little symbol (a red "P" in the lower left corner) to remind you you are in the middle of a parry.

Added RESET button.

Added an INSTRUCTIONS' notecard.

Fixed bugs:

When you are playing, the Card Counter for the En Garde HUD will now only listen to the board you're playing on, even if there are other boards too close, messing up the board lines.

When you are just observing a game, the Card Counter for En Garde HUD will now only “pay attention” to the closest fencing board. So, if you are observing a game, do not forget to get closer the one you want to follow that game.

Disclaimer: NO REFUNDS for no matter what reason!
You have been warned :)

Any suggestions are welcome.

Be warned before you buy this is a hud that you wear its not to be rezzed on the ground, my mistake for not reading first, but it works fine.

Effective, efficient and user friendly

Gets the job done. Effective, efficient with a good user interface. Very helpful. Eliminates a chore.
It would have been nice if it would not have been necessary. For instance if there would not have been a set number of cards. Then strategy would have to be based on more uncertainty about your opponents moves. Like with real fencing. Since it is not. This helps to negate this flaw in the game.

no mod unit available to general public

This product does do what it states. That does not make it a great product. The creator insists on selling the item on marketplace as no mod, but has made it available to a select few as a modded item that can be rezzed and displayed on the ground so ALL players can view the card count, instead of just a HUD wearer.
