We all know that there are new fitted mesh bodies, and old rigged mesh clothes.

If your avatar doesn't fit to clothes and you indeed like the design, I advise you to edit and save another shape just for the clothing. Then, change between complete outfits, including clothing, shape, mesh body, attachments, etc. This way many good looking old designs might be worn.
