== What is Slon?
Slon is an alternative to the default friends list that comes with SL. You can add contacts without needing to send a friend request or remove them without worrying about being messaged asking why. You can access this friends list from anywhere without being logged in to SL.
== Who uses Slon?
Members say they like to use Slon to be notified when their partner or friends come online, Business users like the employee management aspects, other members say they like using Slon to let them know if a griefer is online so they can log in with a different account.
== How does it work?
Simply place the single prim Slon Plant on a friends land, rented land or in a Linden Home and wear the HUD, then you can access your friends list from the Desktop and Mobile apps from the Slon website.
Slon starts with 5 contacts for 5 weeks, then each contact is 1L per week after that to cover the cost of servers. You get to set your own price and choose when and where to extend service.

Really hate giving this a 1 star :(
I've had this item for the past 2 years, it was really helpful for me to track my store model bot to make sure I was seeing accurate login times I was paying for, for my bot. I was noticing that at times the bot was offline for longer than expected times and this tool was very helpful for tracking the issue I was having. I also used it to make sure my bot was in the region it was meant to be at my shop, (by checking when the bot logged in and out and cross referencing visually at my shop via the world map) as there had been a few times the bot was relogged into SL but was NOT at my shop and spent hours at welcome centers which was infuriating.
For about past week now as other reviewers have been also leaving reviews, my item has also stopped working with time left on it. I too sent a direct IM to the creator and have had zero response. I went to the in world linden home location where you refill the item and clicking the board shows an attempt to connect to the website but never connects. I also never get the website to load in my browser anymore.
There had been an outage I think a month or so back for a time, which wound up getting remedied, but this time, sadly I'm concerned it is the end of the product altogether considering the reviews I'm now seeing here. I did see another product listed that looks to do something similar, but has a limited amount of tracking and for a MUCH higher cost.. that seems to possibly reference this product (I'm not honestly sure), but it is on another SL username's marketplace, but that item has 6 year old reviews, so it feels unlikely. I also am not at all sure how well that product works for the high cost and since I didn't use the item for multiple avatars, I can't see spending so much to find out if it works as well as this one did.
When this item worked, it was absolutely fabulous, sad to see it seems to be dead now.

I don't blame Kae for quiting the program, just wish it was done more elegantly than a ghosting.
----Offline queries to avatars requires a web hosting service to boomerang the request ping from the user back to the SL server I suppose, Web hosting costs generally range from $2 to $500+ per month in 2026, and if you research competitive offline programs like Avi-Web changed to low cost Avi-Hud , Dimishing returns means out of pocket cost and not sustainable unless active marketing to keep the cash flowing. Sighs, means now log on to secondlife.com and check for friends online.

This was a great product while it worked. Unfortunately it stopped working about a week ago, and unlike previous times, there was no update, no added time, no response from the creator to IMs... nothing.
The previous comment that suggests it's down to changes in SL is incorrect. A quick visit to the slon website (which times out) or opening the desktop client (which says slon server not reachable) points very much at SLON's servers being at fault here, not SL (for once lol)
Anyway, whoever sees this and considers buying this product: I would strongly discourage you from doing so. It's okay to discontinue a product. But it's not okay to do so without notice if people are required to top up regularly and their money is now lost.
Issue with the Slon
I just did a deep dive & this seems to be the issue. The release of the SL Viewer @massive Inventory Service Maintance has changed how scripts query avatar data and online status. This likely broke the connection between the HUD and the Slon external servers. Not Kaes fault, but is unlikey it can be fixed. Sorry looks like due to SL and all the changes (PBR included) its making this great product no longer workable. Very sad, I will miss my little Plant. :(

---Last time was an explanation of DNS configuration problems from LL servers, This time it is dead in the water responses from Kae Fox servers. Which coincidentally occured at height of record breaking snow storm in the North East USA. Dust off the snow and get me off this awkward emailing UUID thing from a competitive product that sends a return list of online friends.
