Sparkle is a puzzle game for 1 to 4 players. To join the game, touch the vacant photo panel ("Touch Here To Join Game") then choose "Join" from the dialog. Your profile picture will be displayed while you play - if you do not agree to this please select "Cancel" instead. While playing you should remain within 20m of the game (and within 5m to see all textual messages). Further players can join the game at this stage, but once the game has begun nobody else can join until the next game.
While players are joining you may touch the "Info" button to view basic game instructions. Touch "More" to move through the info pages, or "Close" to return to the menu.
Once all players have joined touch either "Classic" or "Action" to start the game. See below for the rules of each game.
* How To Play *
In a multiplayer game your turn is indicated with "Play!" above your photo panel, and a bell sounding. In a single player game you simply play repeatedly, and the bell does not sound.
When it is your turn you may swap two gems by touching the first (it turns black) and then the second. If the move is valid the gems will swap, the grid will settle, and the turn moves to the next player. The exception is after creating a hyper prim - you may play again. See Basic Rules for details. If a player does not make a move within 30 seconds their turn is forfeit and play passes to the next player.
Any player may pause the game by touching the Menu button and selecting "Pause". The grid will be hidden and the game may be resumed by touching the "Game Paused" panel.
A game may be abandoned by touching the Menu button and selecting "Abandon" followed by "Confirm". All players will be ejected from the game.
An individual player may leave the game by touching either the Menu button or their photo panel and selecting "Leave". If other players remain, the game will continue.
Players who move away from the Sparkle unit (or log out) will be removed from the game after 60 seconds has passed, unless the game is paused.
* Basic Rules *
Sparkle features a grid of 64 gems (8 columns by 8 rows). The aim of the game is to make horizontal and vertical rows of gems of the same type. There are seven types of gem, each a different shape and colour. When it's your turn you may swap a gem with an adjacent gem (vertically or horiontally but not diagonally) to create a line of three or more gems. Such lines of gems will then explode, allowing gems above to fall into their space and new gems to appear at the top of the grid. If the settling gems cause further lines of three or more of a kind, these too will explode and the cascade will continue until the grid settles.
If you make a row of four gems a POWER GEM is created, which can be identified by its bright sparkles. When exploded a power gem takes out all neighbouring gems of any type, and if any of those are also power gems the explosion will cascade!
Creating a row of five gems will create a HYPER PRIM, which has a swirling animated appearance. When swapped with any other gem a hyper prim will cause all other gems of that type to explode! However if a hyper prim is taken out by a power gem explosion, it will not activate.
Note that lines of four, five or more gems created in a cascade will not cause the creation of power gems or hyper prims. Only gems that you manually swap have this capability.
Gem grids are played in levels, with a progress bar below the grid indicating how far there is until the next level. The more impressive the move, the faster the progress bar grows, with the greatest increase reserved for multi-level cascades.
The game ends either when no more moves are available (it is not possible to swap any gems to make a line of three or more) or, for an action game, when the progress reaches zero.
Many thanks for your custom, and have fun!
