It's hard to describe what String Theory is. I guess it's harder to describe what String Theory *really* is, but let's not go there. If you don't know what String Theory is, then check out a beautiful program online that Nova did a few years ago called "The Elegant Universe" with Brian Greene. You can watch the entire thing live, for *free*, at: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html. And trust me, it's well worth it because even though it is five years old as of my writing this notecard, it is still just as beautiful and interesting as ever. =)
Now...with that said, what is String Theory in SL? Well, you probably wouldn't have bought it before seeing it, so I am assuming you've some idea of what it looks like. =) Use it as a meditation chamber, a chillout space, a cuddle spot, or whatever. It's an experience. I figure some people will use it as a skybox or whatnot - whatever you want, it's up to you!
What I basically wanted to do was to make something totally unique with particles and glow, sound, and motion in SL. I wanted it to be artwork, and I hope I've succeeded.
Directions:
1) Unbox your box (which you probably did, or you wouldn't be reading this right now).
2) READ THE DIRECTIONS! (Which you *are* doing! Good!!) =)
3) Rez the Rezzer on the ground, or in the sky, or wherever you want it. PLEASE NOTE: I have marked the TOP, FRONT, BACK portions of the cube to give you an idea of what is going where.
4) Touch the Rezzer cube, and you will get a blue menu. Choose "Rez" to rez your chamber.
5) Wait a few moments for all the pieces to rez. You may now edit your cube and move it up or down, side to side, rotate it, whatever. The chamber will follow what you do in perfect harmony. Also note the built-in instructions in the blue menu as to what the relevant buttons mean.
5) Once you have your chamber where you want it, you may click on the "Set" button in the blue menu to freeze your build in place.
6) At this point, you can delete your rezzer cube from the ground (there is already a copy in your inventory, so please clean up what is left on the ground).
7) PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CHAMBER IS MEANT TO REALLY BE USED AT MIDNIGHT/DARK SETTINGS! You may find how to change your settings in the menu World > Environment Settings > Midnight.
8) You may now walk up the ramp into your new and beautiful String Theory Chamber.
9) What you do at this point is up to you, so let's just go over the controls very quickly.
10) There is a control panel to your left as you walk in. Since String Theory is so esoteric in nature, I decided on simple color buttons.
11) The bottom button rezzes 3 couches. Each couch has 3 different poses on it from the others. To sit on a couch, just touch it - right-clicking the couches proves to be difficult, so JUST TOUCH A COUCH TO SIT ON IT. =) Each person will sit in a pose sequentially. Each couch can take up to three people. To derez the couches, just touch the same button again, or delete them by hand. If you have trouble selecting things in the chamber, try using Control-Alt-T to show transparencies (and do the same to turn it off again).
12) The button above the bottom one (white) sets glow on the chamber. Touch it and it is self-explanatory. =)
13) The black button above this turns on all particle effects (as well as off). Use with caution, and I really mean that.
14) The small buttons above the black one control each effect individually. You will get the message whether it is turning on or off when you touch it. Play at will.
15) Around the chamber are 13 other "Strings". These are your musical strings. Haha. Get it? Okay...touch them to turn each one on/off at will. Play with it and enjoy the experience of the sights and sounds of String Theory.
16) In the center is a big string particle! Well, it's really just a moving statue, but we can pretend. If you want to move it up or down, simply touch it. It is down by default. Touching can sometimes be tricky, so if you miss, try again. I'll work on a button in the near future to facilitate moving it easily.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Once every day, the chamber will check for updates. I don't really expect to update this all the time but, if there are updates to be given, you will get the new updated version automatically.
