The Mirror Box is a box with pictures on the inside. The pictures were all taken in Second Life. In the middle there is an almost transparent water layer. The pictures under water are the mirror image of the ones above water, so it seems like the water perfectly reflects the skies, land and trees above.
About 70 different scenes have been loaded in the Mirror Box. Some scenes have only sky, most also have land and trees (for all these pictures exclusively our Landscapes Unlimited 3d landscapes were used). The water layer can be changed to your wishes and also changed to ice. There is one space scene, with only stars around, without water.
There is a menu that lets you change the scene. You get the menu when you click the screens or the water for about 1 second, or by rezzing and touching the remote control. The menu also lets the owner change some settings, for example to allow group members to change the scene as well.
The land impact is 12. The box is excluded from the physics system, which means it doesn't cause any lag and also that you will fall through it if you try to stand/walk on it. You need to make your own place in the middle to stand on.
The box is available in 10 sizes, from 32x32x32 meters (for a 1,024 m2 parcel) till 1x1x1 km. They are all perfect cubes. You can also get a discounted fat pack, with all of them inside. Free demos are available as well.
The effect of the box can be improved by using items that also seem to reflect in the water. The "Mirror Box - Props" are particularly suited for that (also available in the inworld store).

This is a game changer for SL skyboxes -- genius idea
I so love this!!!
I got the demo of the 12xx128 Mirror Box 2-3 weeks ago to check it out. I love this idea. I've worked with artists on LEA projects who have used this trick of the eye to create reflections and it's a great concept and applied to a skybox, absolutely fabulous. I did have some suggestions for Seminal Edelman, the creator, and sent him a note card and he graciously replied via IM and we had a great chat about what tweaks he might make to make it even better.
The main change I'd like to see is to have the same scene replicated with different lighting schemes and assign each scene it's own name menu button that opens up a sub menu with all that scenes lighting schemes. This would make it easier to find the same scene but with a day, night, sunset, fantasy, fog, rain, etc., lighting scheme in it's sub menu.
The Mirror Box does have different lighting versions of some of the same scenes but not quite as organized. This, however, does not diminish this at all -- it is fantastic as is and provides a wonderful illusion that you are surrounded by gorgeous scenery and envrionment lighting reflected in water. This is why I bought it in it's current version because it's such a cool concept and feels so spacious and why I gave it five stars.
If you own some top notch weather effects, it will take this over the top and if you know how to add and work with swimmable water, it will take it to a whole other place of perfection.
I encourage everyone to get the demo fatpack and play with this. It's such a great idea. Hopefully Sominel will provide updates in the future with some minor improvements.
Congrats and thanks to Seminal Edelman for taking the skybox to the next level.
Abosolutely Gorgeous
Love It, Only Wish It maybe had more sunset and night scenes withe tropical theme.
