The Gryffindor Acre Ladder allows many levels of players to pass their acres/ships to arbitrarily higher level players.
Tiny Empires and Tiny Empires 3000 only allow you to give acres/ships to anyone that's one rank above you or lower. So, for example, a Baron could give an acre directly to a Viscount, but not a Count. However, multiple players could relay this acre, so that Baron could give to a Viscount, and then the Viscount could give it to a Count.
When a lot of players get involved in this passing acres/ships, the relationships can get confusing. The Gryffindor Acre Ladder arranges players into a virtual hierarchical structure, so that those receiving acres/ships at one level can then pass them up to the receiver at the next level, so long as you have players of the appropriate rank.
