The Old Orchard Cottage

Details Features Contents Reviews (33)

The Old Orchard Cottage is a small home with big charms. As you approach the front entrance you'll notice the carefully carved wooden spindle handrail and rustic farmhouse lights. Truly a great place to sit and enjoy a quiet sunset or a morning coffee/Tea.

As you walk through the elegant front doorway you find yourself in the great room. The centerpiece is a lovely fireplace with old stone chimney making its way up to the peak of the cathedral ceiling. Cracked off plaster reveals the old stone underneath, a hint of the old roots of the home. As you glance up you will notice the wood beam construction and delicate lantern style chandelier that hangs above. Subtle shading on all walls give a soft and warm feel to the interior.

Moving on into the kitchen you are greeted with a beautiful traditional rustic ceiling fan. Constructed of cast iron, the patina reveals its age. Gold leaf garlands adorn the motor housing giving it an air of elegance.

From the kitchen you make your way through the double french doors out to the back stoop. Relax under the pergola adorned with whimsical string lights, a magical place. Picture yourself here on a warm summer night, cold drink, music in the background, watching as the fireflies dance in the meadows.

The large master bedroom features a traditional drop ceiling supporting a single dome light version of the same beautiful ceiling fan we encountered in the kitchen. Four sash windows provide just the right mix of light with wall space for decor and furniture.

Next to the Bedroom is a smaller room featuring an interesting take on a coffered ceiling. Each recessed panel is semi transparent to allow for the light to sift through when turned on. A fun and unique lighting solution that you can craft to your taste with a multitude of color options and brightness levels.

The third and final room, great for office or library, features a cathedral ceiling with barrel style wood beam supports. centered in the ceiling sits another lovely single dome light ceiling fan. A large arched window is the centerpiece of the room. The perfect room for some lazy Sunday afternoon reading.

- Land impact = 140 at delivered size. footprint of approximately 25 x 20 meters.

- Each rooms walls can be color tinted using the standard SL color functions. the walls and the ceiling in each room each act as a single prim face so you don't have to select multiple faces to tint. Simply select one part of the wall and tint to do the whole room, the same for the ceilings. Walls can also be textured using any normal seamless textures if you change the mapping from default to planar.

- Extensive detail throughout taking full advantage of mesh from tiny brass window locks to highly detailed door handles and light switches.

- Home control system with multi-featured lighting, tintable glass, fireplace and more. (Currently there is an issue with the scripts that rotate the fans which can cause some abnormal behavior. I have included a version without the fan scripts and I will issue an update as soon as I resolve the problem.)

- Custom textures throughout while using regular seamless texture on the exterior stone portion allowing you to change it to brick or different stone or anything you wish.

- House is modifiable so can be resized to some extent and I have included a version with a resize script which you can use. This is somewhat experimental so be aware that some manual adjustments may be needed after resizing with the script.

- foundation is approximately double the depth visible in the photos, making it adaptable to uneven land surfaces

IMPORTANT - This house is 100% mesh so you will need a up to date viewer. As with most mesh items resizing will change the land impact. Shrubbery, trees, and sidewalk are not included and have been added only for visual aids in the photos.

Still good after all these years!

Posted May 08, 2020 by Brigasm 5 stars

I purchased this in 2016 and just got a re-delivery today. It STILL competes with the things released in 2020 despite being 4 years since I bought it! TDE is such a high quality store that I never mind the lengths between releases because holy smacks, are they worth the wait! Still my #1 favorite store in all of SL.
