WHAT IS PROJECT BENTO?
Project bento is a update to the avatars skeleton adding new bones to it like fingers or facial bones.
This will allow the creators lots of new options like finger movements or animated wings etc.

WHERE I CAN USE PROJECT BENTO HANDS?
Only at compatible viewer, at the moment SL release candidate viewer bento version.

WHEN IT WILL BE EXTENDED TO OTHER VIEWERS?
This is a huge Linden Labs project, and it's on the final steps. Next step will be extend bento to the official standard viewer. Once that is done, other 3rd party viewers will adopt it.
Firestorm already has a version with bento for private test use.
