This vampire bat will zoom over to fly around any nearby avatars! When there are several avatars nearby, it will dance in circles between you trying to decide who to get next! It will do acrobatic turns when changing direction. It is an AEtheral creature that normally can fly through the aether, walls and avatars. It is very inquisitive and when nobody is around it will explore every nook and cranny of your property. It will not go under ground or in the water and it stays within a narrow range of altitude near where it was rezzed.

This critter will fly everywhere on your property, but never repeat the same path! A chaotic algorithm makes it behave in complex ways without being random. By default it will detect the edges of your property and stay inside them. It will not fly outside of the sim boundaries. It will not fly more than 5 meters below or 15 meters above where it was last rezzed. You can change the bat to one of 3 boundary modes: It will stay inside the parcel it is in, it will stay inside the owner's parcels (if you own more than one and they are adjacent), or it will fly everywhere in the sim that it finds friendly permissions set. It needs “Object Entry” to cross a parcel boundary and “Run Scripts”. The bat is smart enough to turn away from land that does not have these permissions. These land permissions can be set for all residents, or for a group if the owner has that group active at the time the bat is rezzed.

The bat has four avatar modes, it will ignore, avoid, follow, or byte them. In byte mode it simulates a bite by making your avatar jump and move out of the way! The bat is normally a phantom object and flies through obstacles in its path. However, it has an “object avoid” mode where it attempts to detect objects in its path and turn away. The combination of a sculpted prim, photographic textures and complex behavior makes this bat incredibly interesting for an only 3 prims!

You can wear your Vampire Bat anywhere! Right click on it in inventory and select WEAR. It will attach to your pelvis by default. While attached, the bat can fly up to 3 meters away from you, but it will only do this to try to approach other avatars. When you move or turn your avatar, the bat will turn with you. When you stop moving or turning it will correctly react to surrounding avatars in the new position. If you are alone it will stay close to your torso.
